Charlton Public Library Social Media Policy

The Charlton Public Library (the Library) has established social media sites with the intent to advertise additions to the circulation of the Library, promote upcoming Library sponsored and co-sponsored events, discuss content and foster conversations relevant to the interest of patrons, and engage in any other activities pertinent to ensuring an educational and accessible experience. Library social media sites include any site advertised on the Charlton Public Library homepage as such, and that are maintained or created by the Charlton Public Library and its agents, which permit users the liberty to communicate with other users through postings. The Library social media policy applies to all patrons, regardless of whether they’re registered with the Charlton Public Library or not.

Rights of the Library

The Library regards online social media in the same way as its other information resources and communications. This policy is not intended to supplement or replace other Library policies. The Library reserves the right to remove any messages, tags or postings that it deems to be obscene or threatening towards another patron, defamatory, in violation of copyright, or otherwise impairs a user’s right to freely access the sites.

You should have no expectation of privacy in postings on Library sponsored social media sites. By using these sites, you consent to the Library’s right to access, monitor, and read any postings on the sites, as well as you consensually give the Library permission to use your name, profile picture, and the content of any posting you make on the site of the Library without compensation to you or liability on the part of the Library. This permission ends when you delete your posting.

In accordance with various international, federal, state and local laws, users will make every attempt to protect copyrighted or other intellectual property rights. When quoting another blog or publication, be sure to link to the original. When using images or other media found elsewhere on the web, attribute credit to the author or creator via hyperlink.
